5’10 Forward and Norwood Club Junior, Annika Uzcategui Montenegro has signed for the 2023 NBL1 season.
Coming off a 2022 year in which she received the Club-wide Junior Perpetual Award for the Best Defensive Player, Annika looks to keep improving in NBL1.
Uzcategui Montenegro discussed her enthusiasm for the season ahead,
“I’m so excited for the season ahead and for this amazing opportunity!”
Displaying size, length, good footwork, and timing- Annika has the physical attributes needed to be an elite defender. She has the versatility to guard multiple positions across the court.
Offensively, she has an excellent three-point shot and plays well in transition. A high-IQ player, her knowledge should translate well to senior basketball.
NBL1 GM Will Smith was thrilled to sign the young forward and spoke highly of her defensive skill set,
“We’ve seen in the summer season games alone the development and improvement in Annika’s game. She has gotten accustomed to the physicality at the NBL1 level and how good all the players are. I can see her pushing and also learning from the veteran players in our squad”.
