As you may be aware, Basketball SA have instituted a spectator behaviour management system. Norwood Basketball Club support this initiative, and Basketball SA’s efforts to combat abuse of referees and officials which has no place in sport. In order to ensure that all community members are aware of the new spectator behaviour management system and the penalties for unacceptable spectator behaviour, please read the attached communication from Basketball SA.
Any spectator who is deemed to be engaging in unacceptable behaviour will in the first instance be issued a warning card. If the behaviour continues the spectator will be ejected from the venue for the remainder of the game. Any spectator who is ejected will receive an automatic further 2 week suspension from Basketball SA. A second ejection during the same season will result in a 4 week suspension.
Penalties for poor spectator behaviour will also result in penalties for the team bench. In the case of the U10 – U14 age groups, any spectator ejection will also result in the ejection of the team coach. For U16 and above a spectator ejection will result in a bench BTF and free throws for the opposition.
Norwood will be notified of warning cards issued or spectator ejections. We expect all spectators to abide by the Norwood Basketball Club Code of Behaviour and to treat all officials, opposition teams and spectators with respect.
