Luca Barei has re-signed with the Norwood Flames for seasons 2022 & 2023.
At 6’6 and with an ever-growing frame, the long guard will be looking to keep building on his progress from 2021.
Barei is aspiring to play D1 college basketball and has this option on his radar also, with several schools showing interest.
Luca had a great start to 2021, contributing off the bench in the early rounds and performing well at the U20 National Championships, receiving an honourable mention at the tournament. He was 8th in scoring at the tournament in Mackay also. Barei is also in the selection squad for the U20 South Australian team for the coming championships in 2022, also scheduled to be in Mackay, Queensland.
Unfortunately after the U20’s, Luca then got ill and had to miss a large portion of last season, but has bounced back and is at 100% health now.
Luca is a sharpshooter and great play maker out of pick and rolls. His read on the game is great, he works hard and will keep on evolving his game and body in the coming months, now that his high schooling has finished.
A natural shooting guard because of his scoring ability, Luca has been carrying the ball more and evolving into a real combo guard. His ability to orchestrate an offense is developing well.
“I think the team is in a very good spot right now and I’m really grateful to be a part what we have. I’m feeling very optimistic about the season ahead.”
Barei’s signing comes after Ray Harding also inked a new deal recently.
In 2021, Luca had a season high of 11 in 2 games against West and Forestville and showed glimpses of a scoring threat he can provide.
“Luca showed promise last season and we’re looking forward to having him back fully healthy and to continue to provide an example to our juniors of how to reach the NBL1 level”.
