Shaun Pontifex, a 6’3 sharpshooter, has re-signed with Norwood for 2022.
Ponti, as he is affectionately known around the club, is one of our main locker room and club culture guys in our NBL1 program. He plays the off-guard position.
His elite shooting ability and basketball IQ are what sets him apart for his role in the team. Knowing plays inside out, giving feedback to players in the squad and having a deadly shot, all make part of what Ponti offers to the group.
NBL1 GM Will Smith said:
“We really see Ponti as one of those ‘glue guys’. He may not stand out on a stat sheet, but he is a real wheel turner in the program; Keeping guys motivated, accountable and pushing in the right direction. We also see him having a great role as a sharpshooter off the bench, a Kyle Korver type.”
Shaun also has been plying his trade at Coaching, work in the Under 16 boys program for the last few years and doing so again in 2022. Again, this formulates a great link between our senior NBL1 program and our club juniors. Having a player with his experience, knowledge and understanding of the game being able to impart that to our youth is invaluable.
The young players look up to him and it’s a big part of the Norwood Club to have the proverbial, circle of life, enacted daily with our players and youth of tomorrow.
