Club News – September 2022
Board Appointment
We welcome Tom Parkin to the Norwood Basketball Club Board. He has been involved with Norwood as a parent for eight years, during which time his daughters have been enthusiastic participants in all grades at Norwood, as well as in the ACBA. A chartered accountant for 25 years, Tom brings significant experience and opportunities in Financial Management.
Board Resignation
We regretfully announce that Phil Keenihan has resigned from the Norwood Basketball Club board. He has coached at the club for 17 years, with the highlights including four appearances as head coach at the U14 Boys nationals, a stint as NBL1 assistant coach including a premiership in 2009 and Southern Cross head coach 2012-14.
Phil joined the board in 2013 and served as Club Secretary 2013-2020, whilst also being directly involved in junior program planning and structure assisting the JDO. We thank Phil for his huge contribution across the club over many years and wish him well for the future.
Administrator and Club Secretary Resignation
It is also with great sadness that we announce that Tricia Lawrie has resigned as acting CEO, Club Secretary and Administrator. Tricia has spent the last five years pouring her heart and soul into Norwood Basketball Club. Since originally volunteering for the club, she quickly became a key member of the administration team. She has helped navigate the club’s growth, supported the inception and expansion of ACBA and has been the point of call for all things from uniforms to courts and everything in between.
We will miss Tricia’s smiling face in the office and around the courts, but she won’t be too far away. Tricia finishes up on the 30th of September and will then be around to support. We expect to make an announcement very soon regarding a new appointment.
Coaches and players – culture training
We are excited to announce that Callan McKinnon from Rise Above Adversity will be conducting education sessions for coaches and players. These sessions will cover topics such as bullying, social media, anger management and appropriate behaviours within a sporting team. We feel it is important to equip players and coaches with the skills to complement our
code of conduct, so that we continue to have a club where everyone feels safe and welcome.
Coach sessions will be held prior to the commencement of the grading season, and player session during the grading season. Sessions will be mandatory for all coaches and players. Parent sessions will be offered in the new year.
Strategic Planning Day
In a first for the club, the board is undertaking a strategic planning day on Sunday 18th September which will be externally facilitated. The aim of this is to define a clear direction and vision for the club over the next 1-5 years.
