Point guard, Sophie Kerridge, has signed on for NBL1 Central Season 2022 with the Norwood Flames Basketball Club.
22 year old Kerridge is a fast, dynamic guard that played her first year of NBL1 last year. An unassuming person, Sophie hails from Mildura and moved to Adelaide pre-Covid.
Thinking that she was signing up for a social team, SK was very much thrust into the deep end in NBL1! After a few trainings, her teammates saw her potential and have been quick to get around her.
Always smiling and positive, she is a great influence to have around the group.
Her season resulted in averaging 7.9ppg, 3.9apg, 3rp on 48.8% FG shooting and an awesome 2.3 steals per game, with a season high of 5 twice.
Playing the passing lanes and being a quick on-ball defender, has led Kerridge to mix it with the best guards in the league.
SK tallied a season and career high 23 points against Sturt and also notched a double-double with 18 points and 11 assists against North Adelaide.
Her confidence rose as the season wore on, as over the 2nd round of games (last 9 games) she averaged 11.6ppg and also looked for her perimeter shooting more.
Sophie was really positive in her thoughts on 2022:
“I’m super keen to get back on court with these girls and have a great season. We came a long way in the second half of last season and we are looking to keep that momentum going for 2022.”
Coach Terry McNamara was excited to have Kerridge back for 2022:
“SK offers that tremendous balance of humble, team-oriented player and tenacious competitor. Her raw speed adds an aggressive dimension to our offense and enables her to apply enormous pressure on the opposition. SK emerged as a talent in 2021 and is ready to step up to the next level.”
With the NBL1 season slated to kick off in April, pre-season fitness is under way.
