The Norwood Flames are excited to announce their first signing of the 2023 NBL1 Season: Sharna Thompson!
An exciting 22-year-old guard who arrives from Hobart, Thompson will look to bring her sharpshooting abilities to the Flames squad in 2023.
In 2022, Thompson averaged an impressive 16.7 points per game in NBL1 South, knocking down 60 three-pointers during the season.
She also comes with WNBL experience, having been a development player for the Townsville Fire during the 2020-21 season.
Thompson aspires to reach the WNBL level again with an excellent NBL1 Central season in 2023.
A former U19 Australian Gem squad representative, she brings international experience to a promising young side at Norwood.
NBL1 GM, Will Smith, discussed how Thompson’s skillset will suit the current squad perfectly,
“Sharna is exactly what we were looking to add to our group; A knockdown shooter. She can space the floor off the ball or create with it, which makes her a tough matchup.
Sharna also plays both ends [offence and defence] hard and will complement our playing group well.”
Thompson is also eagerly anticipating the move,
“I’m very excited to be making the move to Adelaide to join the Flames. I’m very grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to get stuck into it with all the girls.”
Norwood’s newest guard will move to Adelaide full-time in February and be involved with the wider basketball community as a coach.
The Flames NBL1 pre-season kicked off last week.
More exciting news including season ticket information, further NBL1 player signings, and merchandise, will follow in the coming weeks.
