Darcy McNamara, a dynamic 5’9 guard, will debut for the Norwood Flames NBL1 side in 2023.
McNamara had an outstanding season in the U21 Div 1 team, leading them to ultimate championship success in a tough grand final matchup against a strong Woodville team. He was named team MVP for the season.
His game evolved in leaps and bounds on the defensive end of the court, using his speed to apply suffocating full-court pressure.
McNamara also had a lot of minutes in a point guard role, a new position as he had traditionally played the off-guard. Again, this has only helped make his game more diverse.
Head Coach Tim Odell was proud of how McNamara’s arrival displayed the importance of Norwood’s successful junior programs,
“Being a club junior, Darcy represents the grassroots of our program. I’m looking forward to helping him develop at this level over the coming years.”
NBL1 GM Will Smith also discussed the recruit’s electric speed,
“Darcy is one of the fastest players with and without the ball I have seen. He’s a flash out there on the court, and we are excited to see his dynamic play in NBL1 and reserves. He can score the ball and impact the game on the defensive end. Darcy can also find his teammates and has done a great job in improving his decision-making in reading the defence.”
