The Norwood Basketball Club Management Committee is pleased to announce that Jess Foley has been appointed the ABA Women’s Playing Coach, with Vicki Valk as her Assistant Coach!
Jess will assume full responsibility for the Senior Women’s program in its entirety, including our U23 Youth League.
Jess is a long-term Norwood Player, and a dual winner (2013 and 2011) with Norwood of the Halls Medal for the fairest and most brilliant player in the state. Jess is a current WNBL player with the Adelaide Lightning, and has had an illustrious playing career.
She was drafted to WNBA, she has represented Australia at Junior and Senior (Opals) levels, was Adelaide Lightnings’s former WNBL captain and was an All Star in its 2008 championship year. Norwood is delighted that Jess will commence her coaching career with us, and we look forward to watching her apply and display her people and leadership skills.
Vicki Valk is ideally placed to assist and to mentor Jess. She is a WNBL life member, playing from 1983 to 1996 and winning two championships, and playing ABA from 1983 to 2001 with North Adelaide and Norwood. She is the 1992 Halls medallist and a 300 Club/Life member of Basketball SA, and was also a member of the Australian Opals squad from 1987 – 1993.
Vicki previously coached Norwood for 6 years from 1995 to 2001, reaching the grand final in every year, for a total of 4 premierships. In the WNBL, Vicki coached the Adelaide Lightning for 3 years from 2007/08 to 2009/10, winning the WNBL championship in 2008.
Welcome to the coaching caper Jess, and welcome home Vicki! We are delighted to have not just two Norwood legends and fine basketball coaches, but two such outstanding people at our club!
