Men’s Norwood Flames vs Forestville Eagles
The men have started the season 1-2, they wanted to start the season much better and are looking to get into a rhythm with a win in this matchup against Forestville. The Eagles are 2-1, coming into this game on a 2-game win streak, coming off their last win against the Southern Tigers. The Eagles have been rolling offensively so to win this game the boys will need to lock in defensively.
The game started with both teams scoring, the back-and-forth opener was won by the Eagles as they ended up doubling Norwood’s score, forcing a quick time-out from Tim Odell. Unfortunately, the time-out didn’t work as intended as the Eagles kept their offensive momentum whilst the Flames struggled to find any rhythm offensively. Nothing was able to spark the Flames and the quarter ended with Norwood trailing 38-16.
The second opened much more positively, the Flames finding an offensive game plan that worked and attacking the Eagles much more effectively than before. The Eagles’ offence was far from beaten though, as they continued to score in bunches and keep the Flames on their toes. Alex Dodson, making his first appearance of the season was a key contributor off the bench, helping the Flames win the quarter, ending the half down 60-44.
The final half started with more offence from both sides. Both teams were scoring at all three levels and finding contributors from every player on the court. The unrelenting Norwood offence was slowly clawing them back into the game as the boys outscored the powerhouse Eagles again this quarter. A mixture of offensive systems and read-and-react play allowed the men to score whenever they wanted with all players on the court finding their niche on that end. This impressive offensive display brought the game back to 5 points before a near buzzer-beating 3 from the Eagles put them up 80-72 going into the final period.
Alex Dodson was able to keep his scoring up to start the fourth, scoring 4 straight points to open the quarter cutting the Eagles lead to 4. Forestville responded and started scoring at their usual rate, finding gaps in driving lanes and kick-out threes to extend their lead. The Flames attempted to respond but the pure firepower of the Eagle’s star-studded offence was enough to keep expanding their lead and drive the Flames out of contention for the game. Catching fire at the right time, the Eagles got the best of our boys as Norwood ended up falling 107-87.
