With the 2021 NBL1 season now complete, we’d like to say a sincere thank you to all the volunteers who have generously contributed to the club over the past season.
In particular, to the extremely generous families who have opened their homes and housed Mike, Ehra, Mozzie, CJ, Anthony & Derrick at various times over the past 2 years – especially during the difficult period during the initial COVID-19 lockdowns – THANK YOU!

Here’s a list of all the other incredible volunteers who helped our NBL1 program this year >
NBL1 League Award Winners
Congratulations to CJ Turnage for being awarded the 2021 Woollacott Medal, NBL1 Central Men’s MVP and All Star 5! CJ had an outstanding season and is a well deserved winner.
On the women’s side, a big congratulations to Ally Wilson on her brilliant season and for being named to the All Star 5 team. A fantastic achievement!
Finally, in the statistical category, Daniel Webber finished the NBL1 season as the Men’s Field Goal Percentage leader, which is another great achievement!
Thank You Mike!
We’ll be saying farewell to Men’s Head Coach Mike Malat at the end of this year with his 2 year contract with the club finishing up at the end of December.
The Men’s NBL1 team finished runners up after making a fantastic run to the Grand Final with an outstanding second half of the year, but unfortunately fell just short of the ultimate goal.
We’re extremely proud of the team for their achievements this year!
Mike reflected on his time at the Flames:
“I’ve enjoyed my time at the club and the relationships that I have built. I believe they will last a lifetime and I hope that we all stay in touch. During my time here I feel I have accomplished a lot myself and also have seen tremendous growth in players, which makes me the happiest.
To everyone I got a chance to work with, and to the club for believing in me to lead their men’s program, I say Thank you, and I look forward to following your careers in the future!
Go Flames and I wish many blessings to everyone!”
We’d like to thank Mike for his contributions to the club over the past 2 years as Head Coach of the Men’s NBL1 and Under 18s boys teams, especially during the challenging COVID shutdown period and we wish Mike, Ehra and Mozzie all the best for the future!
Thank you Terry!
A special mention to Terry McNamara who started the season as the Women’s assistant coach and took over as the head coaching position when Derrick left.
The Women’s team turned their season around going 7-2 with Terry as the head coach, and then JUST missed out on a finals spot on point spread.
Assistant Coaches and Team Managers
We couldn’t run a successful NBL1 program without our amazing assistant coaches and team managers who are instrumental in making sure the programs run smoothly.
