Women’s Norwood Flames vs Woodville Warriors
The girls are looking to start a winning streak after starting the season (2-5) against the Woodville Warriors (0-6). The Flames do not want to give the Warriors their first win, winning this game will help start a postseason push for the girls, getting them on track before the end of the season.
The first quarter opened with a steal and score for Polly Turner, followed by 2 devastating triples from Eva Langton and a layup off the inbound for Emily Winter forcing a timeout for the Warriors. The quick 10-0 run was finally ended by free throws. After these, another 7-0 run from Norwood began. A dominant start from the girls, highlighted by another 2 threes from Eva Langton and Emily Saunders was brought to life, closing the quarter strong, and a team on fire up big, 16-34.
The second quarter opened oppositely, the Warriors going on a 7-point run, during which, Norwood had issues offensively being unable to find anything within the paint and giving up multiple turnovers, forcing a timeout from coach Dickel. Isabella Stratford opened the scoring for Norwood, getting our first 7 points in the quarter. Eva Langton chipped in to end the quarter, contributing 7 points of her own, including another 3-pointer to end the half on a strong point. Norwood leading comfortably 32-51.
The second half brought a scoring battle, with both teams matching each other’s 4-point runs, before they caught fire from distance draining 3-triples in a row. After the hot shooting, both teams upped their intensity on the defensive end, forcing each other into tough possession after tough possession. Eventually, the offensive talent from Norwood overwhelmed the Warriors’ defence, getting some easy shots before forcing another timeout from Wodville. The timeout settled the Warriors’ offence, allowing them a few scores before the end of the quarter. Norwood is still up, 55-72.
A 4-point run from the Warriors set up false hope at the start of the quarter, Norwood answering with 10-straight. Woodville finally got themselves back into the scoring column with a couple of free throws. Both teams were hot from three towards the end of the quarter, hitting 5 out of 6 combined of their next triples. The three-point barrage slowed down as both teams started attacking a now wide-open paint. The game ended with a comfortable win by your Norwood Flames, 69-99.
