Women’s Norwood Flames vs Eastern Mavericks
The Norwood Flames (4-9) are going up against the Eastern Mavericks (2-11). The Mavericks have had a disappointing season and are a team which has been depleted over the course of a season through injuries and other means. This gives the Norwood women am chance to get a good win and build some confidence before the end of the season.
The game opened with a dominant performance from the Norwood starters, especially Maddy Hinton who scored 7 of our 15 unanswered points to start the contest. This opening created a ton of energy for the team, with everyone contributing on both ends the team was able to continue the offensive efficiency even after the Mavericks found their offence. This great quarter on both ends of the court gave the girls a huge 11-27 lead at quarter time.
The momentum from the first quarter carried into the second as the scoring remained consistent for the Flames. The Mavericks had no answers for the variety of scoring that the Norwood offence displayed, scoring at all 3-levels and finding their way to the line giving the Mavericks no rest. They had an answer for everything Eastern threw at them. The defensive pressure from Norwood was also incredible as they remained diligent on that end despite the large lead. This two-way effort led to an enormous 23-50 halftime lead for Norwood.
The Mavericks picked up their game to start the second half. This kept the lead stagnant for the Flames despite continued excellence from the starters. Eva Langton was having an amazing quarter before being brought out around halfway through. She was able to rest for the remainder of the game, finishing with a perfect game, 5/5 from the field. The bench was brought on for the rest of the contest allowing coach Will Smith to evaluate the younger talent against game competition. The bench was able to hold the lead, quarter ending 39-68.
The fourth quarter was more of the same, the girls were excellent on both ends. A mixture of starters and bench were able to find another burst of offensive rhythm. The bench impressed and had an amazing quarter on both ends of the quarter, highlighting a great win and displaying the future potential in the Flames squad. The game ended with a big win 52-93.
